Selecting a lithium battery is rarely about picking the single “best” chemistry. It is about matching cell characteristics to your product’s duty cycle, safety envelope, and total cost of ownership. This guide compares the three chemistries we engineer most often for custom packs: Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC), and Lithium Polymer (LiPo).

NMC delivers the highest usable energy per kilogram among the three, which is why it dominates e-mobility and cordless tools. The trade-off is a more sensitive thermal envelope that demands a well-designed Battery Management System (BMS).

Watch two shifts: sodium-ion is entering stationary and low-cost mobility segments, and semi-solid / solid-state cells are beginning to appear in premium applications. Neither replaces the three chemistries above today, but both are worth tracking for next-generation product roadmaps.
